Rejecting or breaking a Keeper’s vows is more than simply walking away from a title.  It is viewed as an ultimate act of betrayal, to your clan and Keepers worldwide, putting the society at risk from the world around them.   “Rogue” Keepers can cause much mischief and damage if allowed to exist.  That is why a Keeper found to purposefully reject their vows will be hunted relentlessly by their brethren and once found, be put to death.  Keepers can remove themselves voluntarily and through a long-established procedure. Leaving means giving up everything that ties you having been a Keeper, keeping you knowledge of the supernatural world secret and never revealing anything related to Keepers existence.  Clans protect and nurture their former Keepers who remain true to their vows.

Family History And The Legacy of the Clans

Each clan of Keepers is unique. How? Some people take great pride in their family history, viewing it as a legacy that has been passed down through the generations. Some view it as a burden, a link that keeps them trapped in a never-ending cycle of sacrifice.

Some clans start training their kids as soon as they reach puberty, starting with lore and family history and physical and mental tests to screen candidates early.  Those with gift receive specialty training to ensure they walk the path of using their gift for good and not evil. Some participate in secret ceremonies, and rituals that bond them to the cause and to help prevent them from going astray.
